Hawaii Food Tours is a logical extension of my life's devotion to food and my desire to share culinary delights with other people.
These gourmet adventures were borne from my belief that the best way to experience the Aloha spirit is to taste it.
Please read what my guests have to say about their Hawaii Food Tours experience.
The only downside to the entire trip was when we broke the rules last night. We went to the V Lounge but arrived before they opened so we decided to kill time in the mall and ended up in the Macaroni Grill where we had a couple of plates of below average chain food. Oh well......
Thanks again for your wonderful tour and hospitality. Honolulu is now our favorite vacation city and already planning our trip for next year where hopefully you'll run a Dim Sum 101 class. Matthew, please let us know when your book is finished.
Any suggestions for food in Maui?
We've been back from Hawaii for 2 weeks now and have come home to rain, rain and more rain - and cold! Quite depressing actually!
We have attached a few photos that we took on our Food Tour with you that I thought you may like. Feel free to use them for any promotional stuff if you want as well. I thought the one of you both together was great!!
My next job is to post a review on Trip Advisor for your "Food Tour". All of us agreed that it was THE best tour we have EVER been on and we all have travelled lots throughout the world. Thank you very much for such a memorable and delightful experience!
And if you're ever in New Zealand, please get in touch. We'd love to show you "our world"!!
All the very best,
I think of you nearly every day when I sit down to eat. I smile and miss the wonderful flavors you introduced me to.
I want to thank you again for the most marvelous tour and day. I'm still talking about it to all my friends and can't wait to come back to Hawaii to do another one.
Matthew and Keira, you two are the best thing that's happened to Hawaiian tours ever. To be with people who love food and love to talk about food and who plan their lives around food is too good to be true. I hope to see you again in the near future.
Dear Keira and Matthew:
We just want to thank you for the great time we had with you on the tour. It was so much fun I can't wait to do it again, several times in fact! It wasn't just a food tour, it was food, sight seeing and history of Hawai'i all in one. The places that you chose were so fun and interesting, my favorite was the noodle house. All of the food was delicious. It was the best tour we have ever been on and the two of you are just wonderful guides. You really are on to something very unique, we wish you continued success. See you next year!
My wife and I joined your "Hole in the Wall" tour on Friday Feb. 20. It was our first day of organized fun on our trip and we therefore measured our other tours against your "Hole-in-the-Wall" as the "yardstick". While we enjoyed Pearl Harbor and others, nothing came close to the the fun, and educational, time we spent with Matthew and Keira and their other guests (cousins).
As a sidebar, everywhere you travel you will find unique characteristics in this great country of ours. I read extensively about any area before our trips and when reseaching Hawaii, mostly Oahu, I repeatedly saw "Aloha spirit" and, to be honest, kind of poo-pooed it. But Matthew and Keira convinced me that "Aloha" is very special and thrives in Hawaii.
Congratulations on upcoming wedding and God Bless your union.
The most unique tour I have ever been on.... Bring an appetite for this thoroughly entertaining experience.
Awesome is your tour. I am so excited to be able to have something to offer my clients
more then a hokey dinner cruise. This is a tour that meets the needs of our baby boomer society. I wish you the best of luck but it is not luck you
need just the perseverance to deal with people and continue to love what you are doing. Until we meet again.
Mahalo.
We all want to thank you and Keira for the 4-star experience of the Hole in the Wall tour.
The food, the tour, the company was truly a unique concept of introducing new foods that we would not have tried
on our own. All three of us have no words to describe those cocoa puffs. Think about them daily, lol.
"I love Hawaii Food Tours!"
What I thought would be a stressful round of restaurant hopping under the hot sun turned out to be a laid-back and leisurely vacation from the real world. It's amazing how stress-free life can be when someone else is doing the driving.
We are still talking about the food tour, it was definitely one of the best things we did during our stay in Hawaii!
The Hawaii Food Tours provide a tantalizing taste of the wide range of flavors, ingredients and preparation methods that define Hawaii's culinary scene.
Matthew,
Taking your tour caused me to miss my first Notre Dame football game on TV in 30 years. It was worth every second. The tour was the best we ever went on. The food was outstanding!!! and we won!!!
You guys are awesome! Thanks for a great day; best fam tour yet!
I cannot begin to express how much fun/food we had! It was definately a one of a kind experience, and I am happy to know that you are able to provide it on a regular basis to our customers! Very unique, filling, and a great concept! Every stop/restaurant had different tastes to offer, and really accentuated the diversity of food here in Hawaii. I love the way you also personalize the tour by allowing "pit stops" and "detours".
Being able to take home leftovers was also a great plus (I fed my husband dinner that night!!) - I was too full to eat another bite! Again, your hospitality and graciousness was boundless. We had a wonderful experience and as a concierge, I was able to gain more insight on what our island has to offer to our guests.
Greetings!
We just want to let you know again what a fabulous time we had on your tour and are telling everyone we know! It was way beyond what we had expected, not only was the food very good, but you showed us other interesting sites and shared some of the history with us as well. The company was the best and we felt as though we had new friends there from our home far away. Thank you, thank you for everything.
Thank you guys again so much....I had such a great time. I will be contacting you again really soon. Wonderful tour, can't say enough about it and of course my stomach is still feeling it. The food was great. I never knew about these places and I have lived here all my life. So thank you for educating us about the wonderful hole in the walls. But the best thing about this tour is the great company.
I still can't stop talking about what a great time I had in Hawaii. My co-workers and friends are jealous. I had a fabulous time on the Food Tour. It was a great way to spend my last day in Hawaii.
We never fail to rave about your tour when anyone asks us about Hawaii. Most of all we really enjoyed meeting you both.
We wish you the very best in your new business and I'm sure you'll do VERY well.
That was the most memorable trip we've ever taken, and your tour was our absolute favorite activity.
Thank you for sharing your passion for food with us. We really enjoyed the tour and company. The info on what's good and what's not will keep us on the right path to food enlightenment!
Matthew and Keira,
I wanted to Thank both of you for a wonderful day. We had a great time! It was an experience that will last a lifetime.
I couldn't stop talking about it to my wife, and now she is jealous and can't wait to get some time away from babysitting to go on it herself.
I did, however, forget to ask Matthew some of his stories about stars that he's cooked for!
Well, Thank You both again for a wonderful tour.
We had such a wonderful time on our Hole in the Wall tour with you!! What a treat getting to sample things we never would have looked
for in areas of Honolulu we not have visited before. The tour truly was one of our favorite adventures this trip (and we come over to Oahu
often). We are in terrible shock right now because we can’t run out for malasadas or scoot out for a Cocoa Puff. And Zaffron
was a real treat for me. It was outside of my comfort zone and has made me really think about trying more types of foods. And I am now a
committed locomoco fan after listening to your description and giving it a try. Yum! Thanks so much for giving us such a treat. We are telling everyone we know and will definitely bring our next group to you for some more fun!!
Mahalo and Aloha!!!
Hi Matthew and Keira: I’m just home today. I’ve told so many people about my wonderful experience with you. For people who are passionate about authentic food, the Hole in the Wall ‘nibbling’ tour should be the first thing you do when visiting Hawaii!!!!!
Dear Matthew & Keira,
This is just a quick note to say thank you for the Food and Wine (Gourmet Trilogy) tour. Both Lydia and myself enjoyed it immensely.
I definitely will be looking up the tour again on my next visit to Waikiki. Also I would like to send our friend Michael,
on the Gourmet Trilogy Food and Wine Tour on his next visit. Michael has blood ties and emotional ties to Hawaii.
He also loves good food and was very impressed with the Hole in the Wall tour we first took together.
I would also like to pre pay for his fee. I will let you know when he is headed to Honolulu next.
First of all let me say again, thank you, for the wonderful evening out; it was great seeing you both again. It was just a delightful evening.
Words can not fully express the wonderful idea of yours in creating this tour. Marty and I love good food and you have, provided for us, some of the better foods that Oahu has to offer. It was very delightful to have you & Keira for our guide, you are a delightful couple. With your expertise as a chef, and the flair for providing your clients with the best there is. Marty of course likes spicy dishes so she was in Hog's Heaven when we were at the store with all the various kinds of spices. I am getting accustomed to spicy foods so she is breaking me in slowly. Martha will be sending you her recipe for Pig's N' Blankets in the near future. I know you will enjoy cooking it and eating it too. We will surely recommend Hawaii Food Tours to our friends, who will vising the islands, to contact you and to take your Gourmet tour. Matthew, with your personality, food knowledge and Keira's good looks, you should be very successful. Aloha for now and until we meet again God Bless you both and good luck.
Hi Matthew and Keira,
I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time I had on the food trip.
It's a great concept, I hope it continues to do well for you. I appreciate you sending the receipt.
Thanks also for the fun photos, especially the spam musubi! This morning one of the photographers I work with asked if I had Spam in Hawaii,
so I was able to tell him the story thanks to you. Everything was delicious, but I think I'll forever dream of the malassadas........
Again thank you so much for the wonderful hole-in-the-wall food tour experience. I want a manapua and a cocoa puff right now!
Good luck with your business and we hope to cross paths again in the future.
Aloha Matthew and Keira,
We had an excellent time!!! When we got back inside we told Daryle that the trip was great and the couple that he was talking with asked
to book the tour. We will, and are, spreading the word about your tours. Everyone we meet we tell them about you and Keira.
Mahalo and keep on eating,
Thanks for the tips and the great tour! We had a lot of fun. We'll be sure to mention you to our friends! Thanks again!
Just a quick note to let you know what a great time we had with you guys on the "Gourmet " and the "Hole-in-the-Wall" tours during our stay.
THANKS so much for your warm and wonderful hospitality. We look forward to seeing you guys again on our next trip.
Matthew and Keira,
As I told you at the conclusion of our wonderful experience with you both,
The Hole-In-The-Wall tour was definitely the highlight of our Hawaii vacation.
Not only do Chris and I love food - but we genuinely enjoyed the wonderful experience that you both provided.
All of the stops on the tour were so awesome (we're still talking about the garlicky chiken from Sugoi and the Malasadas!)
and the tidbits you threw in along the way about what we were seeing made us feel like we know a little something that locals know on O'ahu. We wish you all the best of luck with your business and together. You make a wonderful team. And, next time we're in O'ahu, we'd love to get together and just have a drink! On us!! :-) ....
Mahalo and Aloha!
Dear Matthew and Keira,
I wanted to take a few minutes to write and thank you for the spectacular Hole in the Wall food tour that you took us on in Oahu and for
the restaurant recommendations that you sent to us for the Big Island. We enjoyed the pictures and were able to check out a couple of the
Big Island recommendations that you listed. Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to check out Cafe 100, but that will be on our list next
time we visit.
My mother, aunt, and I thoroughly enjoyed your Hole in the Wall food tour of Oahu. We were more than pleased with each of our stops and
the foods we tasted were unique and unexpected. My favorite was definitely the garlic chicken at Sugoi, but I also picked up some
wonderful cracked seed to bring back with me from Us Is Nuts. In hindsight, my only wish is that I'd paced myself a little better.
You were a fantastic pair: welcoming, informative and funny, and we will definitely recommend your tour to anyone else who visits Oahu.
Good luck with the business, and we hope to see you and some new restaurants next time we visit.
Mahalo,
Thanks for the wonderful Food Tour!
It was very relaxed and friendly and the best tour of all the tours I signed up for during my visit to Hawaii while there for the
National American Dietetics Association convention. We learned a lot and glad we did your tour on our first day in Honolulu,
as it gave us some good ideas of different restaurants to try during our stay.
Thanks again...
Hey Keira and Matt,
Rebecca and I made it back home
safely after a 4 day stay in Maui. Your tour was great and most enjoyable.
You guys work great as a team and I think are fantastic people with great people skills and knowledgeable about the local best places.
Again thank you for such an enjoyable tour. I will definitely refer you to my friends.
Thanks again for the great time on the Hole in the Wall tour. Since we love to eat, we had high hopes for this tour and our expectations were far surpassed!
First, both of you were so warm and laid back that we felt immediately at ease.
And, we got a great tour of the city and learned much about Hawaii’s history and current culture.
Oh and the food? Incredible!! It all was great tasting and well representative of the island cuisine. In fact, our friend who is a local
was very impressed with the items we had on the tour- everything from manapua to malasadas. If you come to Chicago, give us a call.
We would love to show it to you! Warmest regards,
Thank you so much for the wonderful tour and the suggestions for Kauai. We all enjoyed sharing our experience with the other agents
on our fam and all of them agreed they are eager to suggest your
tours to their clients traveling to Hawaii. Mahalo for the wonderful “taste” of Hawaii!
We had an absolutely marvelous time on both food tours this year. Well worth our time and your efforts. Thank you both. On our way out of town we stopped for some malasadas (sorry if I misspelled that) and to my surprise he did. I bought 1/2 doz to take home. The airport check in process was like walking through a gauntlet...everyone wanted me to leave that little box.
They were joking but it was fun to see recognition of a prized item. I even had a little gauntlet to walk down the airplane aisle. Thank you again. You outdid yourselves this time around.
Please, please, please forgive me for not responding sooner! I really enjoyed myself. Your food tour was delicious!!! It was more than just a tour, it was a palatable learning experience. The food was delicious and you both were such great hosts. I really appreciate your hospitality. It was my first trip to Hawaii and because of you and the great people and places that you introduced me to, I absolutely miss being there. I feel like Hawaii was my home away from home. Now I have two "foodie friends".
I have a large family and many friends, so I have to repeat myself a lot when I'm asked about vacation, but it's worth it to talk
about a pleasurable experience repeatedly. I will recommend that everyone take your Hawaii Food Tours.
Mahalo & Aloha,
Thanks for a terrific time in the Hole in the Wall tour. What a great way to end my visit to Oahu, though in some ways I wished it was at the beginning so I could have retraced our steps and tried some of the other places you'd mentioned. I did take home some wonderful "Food Memories" and some local products too. I just sent feedback on the dummies site for their Hawaii for Dummies by Cheryl Farr Leas. I gave them your website and told them to include your tour in the next edition.
Thanks again and hope to join your tour again some
time. Remember, if you and Keira and want to check
out the restaurant scene in North Dakota, we'll be
happy to show you around! Sincerely,
I wanted to thank you for your list of suggested restaurants in Honolulu. I can hardly wait to try some on our next visit.
We wish you both continued success with your tours. Rosie and I had such a great time.
The restaurants on the tour were interesting and the food was delicious. Best of all, was the fun we had with everyone on the tour.
There's nothing better than sharing good food with congenial people.
Thanks again,
Aloha Matthew and Keira,
First off thanks so much for a wonderful evening on your Gourmet Trilogy Tour. It was so relaxing after a really busy week.
It was great meeting both of ya'll. We had such a wonderful time with the both of you!
If you're ever in Houston you have a place to stay. By the way, we have some friends that will be in Hawaii in a couple of weeks.
They will be in Honolulu I believe overnight. They are interested in your Tour. His name is Barry. He will be emailing you soon.
I know you will have a great time with them, but Alan and I are more fun!!!!!!!!!! Anyhow, stay in touch.
After thoroughly enjoying the Gourmet Trilogy Tour given to me by my wife as a birthday present, we decided to try the
Hole In The Wall Tour with a friend. The friend, who has lived here all her life, can't stop talking about what a good time she had.
As we experienced with "Trilogy," we had more than great food, we had an experience. Matthew and Keira provide a tour that should be
experienced by visitors and local residents alike. Their gracious explanations of the food and sites observed along the way are a delite. We can't wait until we try this wonderful experience again.
I have told everyone I talk to about your tour! We
had such a great time and the food was fantastic!
George and I really enjoyed our tour with you and Kiera. You two are the
embodiment of the Aloha spirit! The tour was good eats, but even better, so
much fun! I'd do it again, in a heartbeat! And I've mentioned the tour to
all my friends! Keep up the good work!
Dear Matthew & Keira,
Yours is the best tour or activity we've ever done while on vacation. We've traveled all over the world and never expected to see a
food tour until we saw your beautiful brochure at our hotel. Everyone should know about your Hawaii Food Tours, especially those who want
something new and different. You two are so sweet too; the intimacy of your tours makes us feel like great friends. We'll definitely be back for more next time. Cheerio!
Forget volcanoes, waves and luaus, Hawaii Food Tours was the most memorable part of our trip.
Great food, great company and exceptional hosts made this the unexpected "hit" of our stay.
Run, don't walk, and book this now. It will make all the difference.
Matthew & Keira,
Thanks again for your wonderful Hole-in-the-Wall tour last month. Mary and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves,
all the great food finds, and your company. Having been raised in Honolulu and a HUGE fan of local Hawaiian foods, we actually wondered
if you would be able to show us places I’d never been to before. You certainly succeeded. Your flexibility and willingness to tailor the
tour whenever you have a small group absolutely guarantees we’ll be back when next we travel home again. We also appreciated all of your
other recommendations for restaurants to try as we drove around and talked...
Thanks again and Happy New Year to you both,
We would like to add to the list of customers who were pleased to have gone on the Hole in the Wall tour.
We think you definitely have a winner here. The food, people and mini history lessons all made the tour worthwhile.
We will most likely be contacting you before our next trip to Hawaii. Thank you for the wonderful time.
Thanks again for the highlight of our vacation. We wish we could pop over to Zaffron every other week-
do say HI to them please. (kylie sitting next to me says of Zaffron:"they have the best food ever").
love to Keira from all of us, (you too).
Dear Matthew & Keira,
Aloha! We have finally made it back to sunny England (yes the sun was shining - amazing!). We loved our Hawaii adventure and your trip was the highlight of our holiday! Thank you both very much for sharing your knowledge and passion for food - and showing us the real Honolulu. All the best
When traveling, Barbara’s and my goal is to experience new places, meet and interact with locals, and experience local foods.
Your Hole-in-the-Wall Tour fulfilled all three. On numerous past visits to the islands we did the typical tourist things.
This trip we wanted to do something really unique. You and Keira were delightful to spend time with and the food stops we made were
certainly off of the beaten path.
You both have created a memorable food experience and one that we will remember far more than many great meals that didn’t offer a
unique culinary experience. Thanks again for an enjoyable and informative day; it was the highlight of our trip, just as you promised!!
To my favorite tour leaders and tour while I was in Hawaii!!
Your tour was the most fun I had on my whole 2 week tour! The two of you couldn't have been more friendly and hospitable and I thoroughly enjoyed going to small restaurants that I would never have discovered without you!
Keep up the good work!
Just a note to say "Thank You" for a really great day. This is our 14 trip to Hawaii and I can honestly say we have never had as much fun
as we had on your lunch tour. The food was great, but the experience was even more fun. The variety of food, and the number of different
types of food and places we went to was just fantastic. I don't know witch spot I enjoyed the most, but if I had to chose I would say the
noodle factory, or maybe the fish market. It doesn't matter, they were all great, but above all, the fellowship of Keira and you Matthew
really made the day and experience we will long remember. We look forward to our next trip, knowing the you will be at the top of our list
of things to do. Thank You again for such a great day, and look forward to breaking bread with you and Keira in the near future. Mahalo & Aloha
Your tour was the best excursion we did on our Holland America cruise to Hawaii. Thanks for a very personal and enjoyable tour.
Aloha Matthew & Keira
Your food tour was the highlight of our Hawaiian trip! We instantly felt like we had been friends with you and Keira forever – you are both such warm and open people. The foods we tasted, the sights we saw, the smells of the area, and the people we met made it so special. We truly learned the Hawaiian culture that day and enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for the wonderful memory. We recommend you highly and will send our friends.
Thanks again for taking us on your Hole in the Wall Tour, as well as, the wonderful pix that you emailed. I have been telling people here in Anchorage about how much fun your food tour is; so, don't be surprised to see more Alaskans popping up on future tours! Again, thanks for sharing your wonderful city with us!Peace!!......
Dear Matthew,
Forrest and I want to thank you for the fabulous food tour you gave us when we were in Hawaii last month. It was great. We not only enjoyed the food, but your company too! Please let us know when you will be expanding to L.A. We'll tell all our friends! Take care and thanks again! All the best!
Matthew and Keira are entertaining, informative, and, most of all, fun. They took us to eateries we never could have found on our own. We tasted delicious local favorites and enjoyed fascinating insights into Hawaiian history and culture. Treat yourself to delectable food and fond memories. Their Hole-in-the-Wall Tour is not to be missed.
Neff and I really enjoyed the food tour. Since we are both “foodies” and have lived in San Francisco and other places with a wide variety of ethnic cuisines, we sort of that we had seen and tried it all already when it comes to food, but decided to try the hole-in-wall tour. We had a great time! Not only were we introduced to some new foods, we really enjoyed talking to you and Keira, getting to know the other participants, and learning more about Hawaiian culture through its food. I especially liked the behind-the-scenes aspects, such as seeing the noodle factory and learning how naan is made from Farad. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who likes to eat!
Hello, I attended your food tour on Saturday, a week ago. I was one of the Florida visitors. I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had on your tour. We enjoyed exploring the sites and tastes of Honolulu. I am proud to say that we were also able to revisit three of the locations you showed us! Give me a map, some clues, and the right motivation, and I can locate just about anything... Thank you again! Your tour was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. If you're ever in the Bradenton/Sarasota area, we'll return the favor and steer you toward some good food!
Dear Matt & Keira,
Now that I'm back home again in Orlando, FL, I just had to write to let you know how much I enjoyed your Hole-in-the-Wall lunch tour on Sat., May 26. You asked where I found out about your wonderful company and I've finally managed to track it down. You are mentioned in Frommer's Hawaii 2007, p. 145 under "Tasty Tours for the Hungry Traveler." They call your lunch tour their favorite.
I had so much fun with you guys! I'll be sending anyone I know who's coming to Hawaii your way. You have a niche business and I hope your success continues to build. Culinary tourism is in its infancy, so I'm sure that the demand for your tours has only one way to go -- and that's UP! Again, wishing you both all the best--
I just wanted to let you know that the tour that I took while I was in Hawaii with you was one of the most, if not the most, memorable thing that I did while I was in Hawaii. The Hole in the Wall Tour was not only fun, but also filling and educational. I think that the Hole in the Wall tour should be one of the first things that people book when they come to Hawaii. I just wish there were Coco Puffs, manapua and malasadas here!! I do know that when I take my next trip to Hawaii I will be seeing you again!! May the choicest things come your way!! You deserve them!!
Hi guys!
Just wanted to drop you a line and tell you how much we enjoyed our food tour with you. I have been recommending it to all my friends.
Just wondering, have you ever considered organizing a class to teach how to make some of those things we tried (like the garlic chicken bento lunch)?
I would love to be able to make that back here at home. Aloha! :-)
"I have lived in Hawaii for four years now and enjoy the rich culture and diversity that is represented in the city. One of the best ways to experience this culture is through food. I have had some great food while living on the island and now that I was able to go on the Hawaii Gourmet Food Tour I can add some wonderful places that I never would of found or experienced without the tour. I am thankful that my friends visiting from Pennsylvania suggested this tour. I enjoyed sitting back and relaxing as I didn't have to drive and was able to enjoy the history of the food, restaurants, and locations. This tour is a truly unique experience and I am still craving some of the food I had on the tour. I can't wait to share this experience with my friends and future guests to the Island. Thank you Matthew and Keira!"
Excellent tour. we've reflected on it several times since we got home. Lots of interesting authentic foods and locales.
Thank you both so much for last night. We had a blast with y'all and we wish we were staying longer. We really appreciate your generosity and will definitely be sending folks your way. Mahalo! & Cheers!
My wife Helen and I wanted to say thanks for that
great tour. Kiera was also a fun addition and the two
of you made it a lot of fun. We definitely loved the tour, will go on another next year when we are out there and have recommended it to
everyone who asked. Thanks again,
Well, we're back in San Diego with fond memories of our latest visit
to Oahu and your food tour, it was our highlight!
What fun we had visiting those locations off the beaten tourist
track! I'm already talking up your concept with friends and family, I think
you have a winner and believe you will go far in your endeavors.
I'll also keep in mind your idea of expansion into the San Diego
market and try to contact anyone you suggest who might have an
interest in talking with you in more detail, just let me know...
Oh yeah, say Hi to Keira for us!
We will be sure to book another tour when we come back in a couple of
years!
Dear Keira and Matthew,
Thanks for the wonderful food tour experience - coupled with
the warmth and enthusiasm you both generated during that
super eating and learning "Hole in the Wall Tour." It set the
tone and desire for our fabulous trip throughout the islands.
From that time on we looked at local markets and unfamiliar names
on menus with a genuine sense of curiosity and wonder. Food became
more magical, coupled with a desire to step outside the box to
sample new things with greater appreciation.
With affection,
The Hole in the Wall food tour was extremely valuable. Not only did it take us out of the expensive tourists spots and exposed me to real Hawaiian culture, but it also provided the insider scoop on the best neighborhood and family restaurants for the rest of my vacation. I highly recommend taking this tour at the beginning of your vacation because it will definitely help plan out the rest of your vacation in a cost-effective and personalizing way. Entertaining, educational, and exciting overall, the tour exceeded my expectations by far.
Thanks again for a wonderful time. Let me know when you are ready to branch out to San Francisco. I have personal recommendations, and know many local foodies.
Matthew and Keira,
ALOHA!!! We are finally home back in the states. That's a good thing, and a sad thing. : ) Jean is in Lincoln, myself here in Lee's Summit, Missouri (outside of KC). Boy, was I tired! You don't sleep good on those flights when you are crammed like a sardine!!! Anyways, LOVED your food tour and you both!! It was part of my favorite experiences about Hawaii!! I will tell ALL my friends about it......and hopefully they will come visit you!!!! : ) Thanks for the recipes!! Can't wait to try some out! Thanks again!!! It was a great time! It was a joy to meet you both!! Aloha,
Thank you for sharing the island experience with us. I absolutely
loved the tour and all the yummy food that came with it! In a busy
business world, the personal touches you add to your tour are to be
praised. You made us feel like good friends at the table even though
you just met us. And the additional culture tidbits were great. I
will definitely recommend your tour to future visitors. Thanks again
for sharing your day with us.
Matthew and Keira,
WOW, what an experience. This was my first food tour and Connies third. We both agree that you put that special twist on our trip. Keep up the good work.We will see you next time.
Thank you both very much for the great day we spent with you on the "Hole in the Wall" Food Tour. It really was a highlight of our trip to Hawaii. And not only will we recommend your tours, we already did...to everyone we talked to on the ship. And we are happy to continue to do so.
While we can't give any ringing endorsements to our dining experiences on our cruise, we can say without a doubt, that your food tour is the greatest! What an enjoyable day...you definitely know the "out of the way" places...ones we never would have found on our own. That made the time so special. And all the food was delicious. It was a great day spent with fellow "foodies." The only disappointment for us was that we were not able to take one of your evening tours as we know they would have been equally as great.
You've inspired us both to reexplore the Atlanta food scene.
Let us know when you expand to other cities. We'd love to go on another "Food Tour" whether in Hawaii or elsewhere. Again, please accept our sincere thanks for a wonderful day. Please, feel free to use our endorsement on your website...we can't say enough good things. Hugs to you and Keira.
A hui hou.
Tina and I wanted to again thank you and Keira for an incredible ending to our time in Oahu on the Gourmet Trilogy Tour. We both had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed the food, wine and conversation. It was great meeting both of you and we will definitely spread the word to anyone and everyone about Hawaii Food Tours.
My wife and I took the Hole In the Wall tour and had a great time. Matthew and
Keira are very personable and fun... and full of neat tidbits of information
about Honolulu and food. We learned a lot and had some very tasty morsels.
Definitely a nice way to spend an afternoon.
We just returned from Honolulu and a highlight of our trip was the “Hole in the Wall Food Tour.” Matthew and Keira hosted several great hours introducing us to new foods, great preparations and some insights in food culture. It’s a wonderful way to start a Hawaiian vacation as the tour allows you to become familiar with names and tastes of food you might encounter while visiting.
Yvette and I just wanted to send you a quick Thank You for a very enjoyable and memorable day.
We would recommend the "Hole In The Wall" Tour to anyone that likes food, culture, pleasant fun
to be with people, and a great informational tour of Honolulu that you will not find in the Tourist Publications. We especially recommend it for those couples who have different interests. One could
be a serious gourmet and the other appreciates food and enjoys markets, culture, history or just being with friendly people. We wish you much success and will look you up when we return.
MaHalo
Matthew and Keira --
Thank you so much for the excellent food and company last evening -
"Good food and a good time was had by ALL." Thank you again!
Your tour was definately the highlight of our trip in September '07. We are going to Tivo the (Travel Channel) show, can't wait to see you on television!
Thanks again!
I don't know if you remember me... my husband and I were on our honeymoon last year in September/October, and we took your food tour and loved it!!
Have a great Christmas and New Year!!
We are in Florida now. We really loved your tour!!! It is one of the MOST fun things we have ever done together! Hope you are well and busy!!
We had a great time. I have 3 travel agent friends of mine that I am passing your brochures out to….hopefully you will hear from at least one of them.
Keep up the good work. Feel free to include our Kudos on your website. This tour is something everyone should take when in OAHU! I’m telling all my friends too.
Thanks for making our trip to the islands very memorable and satisfying!
Thanks again and ALOHA and Merry Xmas.
Matthew, I saw you on the Travel Channel...Could you tell the television people that next time to give you more time on T.V. so us California people that don't get to see you very often can get a longer glimpse of you ha ha! I Tivo'd it for Ron to see, he had to work that nite.
Ron and I talk about you two so often your ears must burn all the time. We tell everyone we know about our "Food" experience with you guys. We are off to Las Vegas ourselves for our Christmas holiday. We will be visiting family and a having a little fun time with the cha ching, cha ching and hope that we come home with some cha ching! ha ha. Need it to buy food! It's all about the food for us.
Wishing you both the best through this Holiday Season and hope to see you both in the New Year. Holiday Hugs!
Hi Matthew,
You looked greaton TV! Slo was disappointed that it wasn't your whole food tour. I think he just wanted to drool over the coco puffs... I know that soon you will be the featured person for the"Food Network/Travel Channel." How does this sound for the title of your special...."The 10 Best Food Secrets in Oahu" I bet that one of those networks would go for it. If we ever get back over there, we will let you know and we can all get together for some good eats.
Take Care,
Thanks again for such a wonderful day. We had such a good food adventure, something we could never have done without you. We would have never gone into China Town let alone gone to a place like the Green Door. We loved trying things that we didn't even know what they were. I would like to try to make a couple of foods from that Indian restaurant-----the yogurt dressing and the chicken. Do you have a receipe for the great dishes? Looking forward to the arrival of the tee-shirt and more e-mails from you.
I want to thank you again for the most marvelous tour and day. I'm still talking about it to all my friends and can't wait to come back to Hawaii to do another one. I went back to the manapua place the next day for two more manapuas and 6 of the pork steamed dumplings. They were so amazing--I could have eaten a dozen. I told the person who waited on me that I'd been there the day before with you and she also gave me one of the sweet rice cakes. What a delicious treat.
I've been keeping an eye on MPLS "hole in the wall" places that might be included in a tour here. I'm dreaming of being an extension of your tour for MPS but am so busy traveling and enjoying my first year of retirement right now that I can't be tied down just yet.
You two are the best thing that's happened to Hawaiian tours ever. To be with people who love food and love to talk about food and who plan their lives around food is too good to be true. I hope to see you again in the near future.
Thank you for an amazing day.
Hi Matthew and Keira!
We just wanted to tell you that we had the BEST time meeting the two of you and going on the
Hole-in-the-Wall food tour a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the most fun things we've ever done on a vacation.
We enjoyed the eats so much that we had to go back to a few of the places multiple times--we especially loved the
manapuas and the malasadas!! We also made it to try the coco puffs before we left--to die for! Thanks so much for
the lists of things to do/places to see. We loved Allen Wong's--wow! The 10-mile drive was great and the view from
the state park up there was awesome! We got to see where a rainbow ended when we were up there! We really enjoyed
going to the Punchbowl cemetary, too. It was a great trip--one of our favorites yet and in no small part to starting
it off with your tour. Thanks so much again for everything!
Dear Matthew and Keira
Aloha !
Please place the following on your “Testimonials” page,
Mathew and Keira – thank you so much for opening my eyes and my taste buds to whole new slices of Hawaiian life.
Your “Hole in the Wall Tour was truly an experience to savour. What more can you ask for above good company,
good food and fun in the sunshine. One of the best of days for me and I can only say to others – “don’t miss it”
the Food Tour is an Oahu must . I’ll be back.
Now that I am home I wanted to take a minute to tell you what a great experience I had on the food tour.
Here is my testimonial: Primarily a tour of the tastes of Hawaii, with a drop of culinary history, a sprinkling
of Hawaiian urban pop-culture, and a dash of the sights and sounds of the city, your Hawaii Food Tour was a
multi-sensory epicurean delight !
Aloha from the mainland.
G’day Mate,
Wow!! We very much
appreciated your expertise and company during the “Hole in the Wall” tour on Monday. We found it very informative
and entertaining and the company was great. It helped us organise the rest of our stay.
We’ve been on four different tours so far and enjoyed your tour the most. We would love to have you visit with us
should you decide
on a trip ”Down Under.” Please extend our appreciation to Keira. We loved her company and her great local knowledge.
We just wanted to tell you that we had the BEST time meeting the two of you and going on
the Hole-in-the-Wall food tour a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the most fun things we've ever done on a vacation.
Thanks so much again for everything!
Everybody has to eat, and on vacation it should be as much adventure as necessity. We started our Waikiki visit
with the “Hole-in-the-Wall” tour and enjoyed both the unique food and the chance to spend time with our hosts Matthew
and Keira who gave us an insider’s view of eating on Oahu. When the tour ended and they dropped us back off at our
hotel, we felt like we were saying goodbye to good friends. Isn’t that the ultimate compliment?
I really did have a very exciting experience. the next time I come that way I will be doing the tour again.
We really did enjoy your sharing your love of food and your
love of Hawaii with all of us. Best of luck on a continued successful business.....I loved your enthusiasm
and friendliness.
Hi Matthew,
Thanks so much for the recipe. We think of you guys so much when we tell our friends how wonderful your tour was.
Have you and Keira tied the knot yet?
Ed and I are doing great and are planning another trip to Kauai in October. It will be nice if we make
it to Oahu to take your tour again.
Take care,
Hi Matthew and Keira,
I hope you still remember me. I was on your tour back in late November...along w/ those ladies from the
Phillipines by way of Canada :-) Anyway, I've been talking up your tour to all of my friends since then. Plus I still
dream about the Kalua Pork Bun!
Anyway, I thought of you today when I was checking out a web site for a place I'm having dinner tomorrow night in
Philly. I think you guys still have an untapped market here for the rest of the city!
I always thought Anthony Bourdain had the best job in the world...but he doesn't -- you do!
I hope all is well in Honolulu and
please be in touch if you plan to visit the East Coast some day.
Regards,
Hi Matthew and Keira,
I wanted to thank you for a great experience yesterday ! When I get home and have more time I will do a
testimonial...everything was terrific ! I will think about some foodie types that I know..you are right that
you really need the right people ! Also Keira..the suggestion for the extra sauce with the coconut cake was a
good one..it was EXCELLENT !
Thanks Again
Hi Matthew and Keira,
I truely appreciated all the great info. When we get home I will write something wonderful for you to put up
on your web site! I want you to know the tour with you guys was one
of our biggest highlights....and I'm still full.
Finally a tour without feeling like you're on a 'tour'. This is not your tacky wannabe food tour...it's
educational, fun, and such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon (for people who like to talk food).
They love what they do and it shows.
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!
Best of Luck to you 2 :)
Hi Matthew and Kiera! Strategically planning my food tour at the beginning of the trip turned out to be a
delightful way to explore many different food options for later on in the week. Thanks to you, I had the
MOST delicious vacation ever.
Thank you for an unforgettable day on your Hole in the Wall Tour. You introduced us to a number of
local foods that I found to be delicious. The stop in the Chinese Market was a truly an eye opener.
You allowed us to sample several very tasty fruits that I had never seen before. Lunch was an excellent
example of Indian foods. The noodle factory was something I did not know existed.
Your Hole in the Wall Tour was an educational, interesting and tasty tour. Something I will not forget.
The next time I am in Honolulu I intend to take this Tour again. You and Keira are outstanding guides.
Thank you.
Matthew and Keira
Thank you for an unforgettable day on your Hole in the Wall Tour. The four of us agree that you hit a home run with this tour. You introduced us to places we would never have found on our own and a number of local foods that we knew nothing about and found to be delicious.
A half day spent walking through the Chinese Market, sampling several very tasty fruits that we hadn't even heard of, and a lunch of outstanding Indian foods were only overshadowed by you and Keira and you making us feel as a part of your family. Thanks for capping off our trip to Honolulu.
Just wanted to thank you again for the awesome tour. We had a great time and have been sharing the information as well as the pamphlets with our friends back in Canada. We will enjoy the recipes that you have included and are already looking forward to our return to paradise next year when we will book your “Gourmet Trilogy”.
Meeting you both and going on your fabulous food adventure was of course the highlight of my weeks stay with Margie. Thank you so much for making such a fun, informative and delicious day in Paradise. We really learned alot and will of course encourage everyone that steps foot on your Island to take the tour that is not to be missed. Looking forward to seeing you next year when I return.
Wanted to let you know that my friend, Jan Stukenberg, and I had a great
time on the "Hole in the Wall Tour." It was so much fun
and the food was yummy. The trip to Chinatown was very educational and we
saw and tasted foods that we would have never had the opportunity to
experience on our own. Just thinking about the goodies makes my tummy
growl! Especially the Portuguese Doughnuts. Yum!
We hope your gourmet adventures continue to do well and we wish you the best
of luck. When you dropped us off at our hotel, we felt like we were leaving
old friends! :)
The best to both of you. You helped make our Hawaiian vacation more
memorable. And I will recommend your tours to friends that will venture to
the islands in the future.
We thought you might like the photos I took on our tour, which was a highlight of our vacation in Hawaii! We enjoyed the tour a lot and chatting with you both!
Dear Keira and Matthew,.. I wanted to send an e-mail right after we reached the Hotel after your trip,..and every day since,.. just so much to do and see. Mahalo mahalo, thank you, vielen Dank!!!!! for such a great day !!!!!! you both are perfect for this" job of life"
When you asked us about our best part of the tour everyone said a place or a food and I could not narrow it down to that and said :the variety of experiences, tastes, and the whole thing" and that's what I meant. This year my personal highlight was the trip with both of you. I have to say again: for me it was not just the food and the places we went it was the EXPERIENCE of the places with you and the food and the history and the personal connection between all.
my coworkers parents and friends are planning a trip this fall and asked me about info regarding sights and activities, i will pass your flier on with words of praise.
Hi Matthew and Keira,
We really enjoyed ourselves on your hole in the wall tour, I lived here all my life and these places were awesome! This has to be one of my best birthdays ever! We also feel that you are one of the nicest, sincere people we have ever met.
Thank you again for the wondeful food tour. We had such a good time learning about the food there as well as spending time with you both. We felt we were being shown around my old friends. We got to see and try things we would never have without you. I can't believe it was Frank and my 5th trip to Hawaii and we had not done your food tours before. You can be sure next time we will do the other two you offer! We would love to find your food tours in other cities around the country. Crystal also had the best time. She said your tour was the highlight of her whole trip.
Best of luck to you with your business. It is great. We'll be sure to book another tour when we come back to Hawaii next spring! And we've already started telling all our friends about you!
Thank you again.
How are you guy's doing? Brian and I are doing just fine. Just finishing up cutting grass that was up to our knees. It's a good thing we had a vacation. I just wanted to let you guy's know that your tour was the best tour we had. Every one that we spoke to in Hawaii, we told them to take your tour.
We will see you guy's again.
Hey Keira and Matthew!!! Hope you both are well!! Dawn and I enjoyed ourselves so much on the tour and I really appreciated all the care you took by making me (the vegetarian) feel comfortable. Thank you for sharing some bonus cultural tidbits of information that otherwise may never had been revealed!!!
The food was great, the company even better!!
Dear Matthew and Keira,
Thank you so much for your wonderful tour and introducing us to so many new flavors. I was so excited to come home and receive your email with recipes. Larry and I just finished eating manapua stuffed with char siu and it turned out fantastic! It was a little more work than I anticipated but definitely worth it.
Again thanks for the great tour, you have imparted knowledge that will be with me my entire life. Definitely an enriching experience.
I'm going back to NYC tonight and just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful time I had on your tour. I just submitted my review to TripAdvisor and I hope I made it clear that you two were wonderful guides and really tried to think of everything to make the tour excellent.
I tried a few of the shrimp places up here on the North Shore....I really did like Ted's (Keira and I are of the same mind....shell OFF!) and then went back a few more times to try all the different cream pies....so yummy. I never did get to have the open grilled chicken up here....maybe the iffy weather this week affects their decision to bring the trucks out? Oh well.
You probably already know this place but I went to Pearl Harbor/USS Arizona memorial and afterwards ate at the Forty Niner Restaurant. I wish I had been there with a crowd because I wanted to try everything that everyone around me was eating. They are apparently well known for their saimin but I had the Forty-Niner bento....teri beef, rice, spam, garlic chicken, and fried fish (can't remember what it was called). God it was good. I ate it all and then got another one to go. It's so close to Pearl Harbor...a much better alternative to eating at the hideous snack bar or one of the chain restaurants on the Kam highway nearby.
I'm going to be spending most of today in Honolulu before my 9pm flight and plan to hit either Ono's or Helena's...whichever I'm closer to when I'm hungry. Then I'm going back to Leonard's for a bunch of malasadas....I can't wait!!!
Thanks again....mahalo and aloha
This email is long overdue but better late than never. My friends & I were in your March 14th food tour and we had a very enjoyable time. We were impressed by our 2 food guides, particularly their wonderful spirit and delightful personalities.
When we left the tour, we had requested that they sent us a lists of restaurant recommendations that they mentioned during the tour. For example, one of the restaurant they touched on was some pizza place. We love good food and appreciate recommendations of restaurants worthy of our patronage, from reasonably priced to pricier ones.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
I wanted to say that I thought our tour was fabulous and in the seven years we have been coming to Hawaii was one of the most entertaining and educational tours we have taken, not to mention delicious.
Good luck on your pending nuptials.
Hi Matthew and Keira
We just arrived back in Okinawa last night. The food tour we took with you on April 17 was the best part of our trip. Joshua loved tasting real Hawaiian food! We will definitely try another tour when we return to your beautiful island.
Thanks for a wonderful time.
Hey guys… surely you don’t remember me but I went on one of the tours with you & loved it. I talk it up any chance I get. So when I was put in charge of finding a ‘great Chinese restaurant’ for the birthday dinner of my dad, I knew where to go for help. He loves Chinese & so we’ve been to majority of them. If you could please help me with any suggestions you might have. I don’t get out much & would greatly appreciate your help.
Hi,
We just returned back from a Hawaii vacation and went on the food tour with Rich and Malia. We had a fantastic time and even went back to some of the highlights the following days. Thanks very much and we will highly recommend the tour to others.
Thanks again,
We thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and Keira, and have placed your Hole In The Wall Tour on our "not to be missed" list. Mahalo for the recipes, which I've printed and am excited to prepare! Anyhoo, warmest regards from chilly Michigan! Also best wishes for a long and happy marriage. You and Keira are a lovely couple!
